History of WAAIBWS
The West Africa Association of IB World Schools (WAAIBWS) was established out of a shared vision among IB World Schools in the West African region to collaborate, support one another, and advance the IB mission in a contextually relevant and impactful way.
The journey toward forming WAAIBWS began in 2023, when a group of passionate IB educators and school leaders recognized the growing number of IB World Schools in West Africa and the need for a unified body that could serve as a regional voice and resource. After several consultations and collaborative meetings, the Interim Steering Committee (ISC) was formed to guide the development and formalization of the association.
WAAIBWS officially launched in 2024 with the goal of building a strong, connected, and inclusive network of IB schools in the region. The association is committed to fostering professional development, promoting academic excellence, sharing best practices, and advocating for the diverse needs of IB institutions across West Africa.
Today, WAAIBWS represents a collective commitment to empowering educators, enriching student learning experiences, and strengthening the presence of the IB in our part of the world. As we continue to grow, WAAIBWS remains rooted in its founding values of collaboration, integrity, and global-mindedness.
